In 1957 a lapidary display attracted considerable attention. Shortly afterwards a group met to discuss the formation of a Lapidary club. The Victoria Lapidary and Mineral Society was formed and incorporated in 1958. The first meetings were held in the Victoria City Hall Council Chambers. The President appointed was Bill Erichsen
The mission of the VLMS is to create. develop and encourage a general interest in the rock, gem and mineral hobby and appreciation for the earth sciences and related subjects and to provide a gathering place and workshop for those so interested.
