Field Trips Calendar
Field Trips General Information
VLMS and BCLS Members can join us for our Monthly Field Trips taken to a local collecting site. Each event on the calendar will have information on the destination and meeting point. Details on upcoming field trips are also shared at the monthly meetings and sent out on the club mailing list.
Generally, field trips are planned on the 4th Sunday of each month from February to November. Meet up is 10 am and Field Trips typically end at 3 pm, members are free to leave at any time! It is strongly suggested to pack water, snacks and lunch. We’d love it if you shared photos! Email them to us and tell us about your experience.

Rock Collecting Information
Here is a list of local collecting sites and resources you can draw on to find sites on Vancouver Island and around the lower mainland.
Vancouver Island has a wealth of material that you can look for. This list will be added to as time permits. If you have a suggestion for a site or resource please click here to let us know about it.
- All beaches in the Victoria area have Agate, Jasper, Dallasite
- Hill 60 north of Duncan for Rhodonite (most claims are staked so please respect the owners claim)
- Sooke to Jordan River and beyond: There is gold panning in stream beds (remember to check for claims). You can find Fossil shells and Zeolites in the road cuts in the Jordan River and beyond areas. Look at Muir creek for fossil shells in a sandstone matrix.
- Please see the links below for more resources.
